Job Title – Electronics Engineer

Job Description

Testometric is a private limited company that has been involved in the design and manufacture of testing machines and quality control equipment since its foundation in 1970.
We are currently seeking an Electronics Engineer to join our technical team and assist with both future product development and support of our existing range of Universal Testing Machines. This varied role would suit a skilled Electronics Engineer with experience of PLC based electronic systems. Previous experience with strength testing machines or similar test equipment would be highly beneficial. A flexible attitude and a willingness to learn new skills is essential.

Location – This is an internal role based at our offices in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Occasional UK site visits may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, development and testing of electronic systems including hands-on prototyping and fault-finding.
  • PLC programming of modular fieldbus based system using the Omron Sysmac environment.
  • Lead a small team of Electrical Engineers to manage the electronics assembly process for production machines.
  • Coordinate scheduled ordering of bought-in components to meet production demands.
  • Design of ancillary circuit boards using CAD software.
  • Support equipment in the field, via remote sessions or occasional site visits.

Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Background in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, ideally to degree level or equivalent.
  • Experience in PLC structured text coding (e.g. Omron Sysmac, Beckhoff TwinCAT)
  • Knowledge of fieldbus based I/O and control systems (e.g. EtherCAT, PROFINET)
  • Complex problem-solving skills and a methodical mind.
  • Some programming experience in C and C# would be beneficial.
  • Strong interest in technology.
  • Aptitude for maths.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong IT skills, with a good level of competence with Microsoft Office applications is essential.
  • Time management and an ability to prioritise and plan work effectively.
  • Familiarity with strength testing machines or similar equipment would be an advantage.
